Winning weekend in Victoria - Feb. 12th & 13th
The UFV Hockey Club went into last weekend’s double header in Victoria without a win on the island. Both teams were desperate to secure a spot in the playoffs and needed the four points. In the first game UFV came out of the gate with four goals; one from Matt Ehrenreich and three from Robert Vos. Vos scored his fourth of the game in the second before UVic answered with three of their own. The third period saw UVic score once more before the end of the game. The team found success with their special teams which went 3 for 6 on the power play and 1 for 5 on the penalty kill.
The two teams met again on Saturday at noon at the Save-On Foods Centre which holds 7,000 seats and where the ECHL Victoria Salmon Kings play. UVic fired 16 shots at Adam Postmus’s direction but were unable to find the back of the net. Matt Ehrenreich tallied with a spin around shot to end the first period up by one. The second period saw UFV keep on rolling with goals from Cameron Vandenbrink and Robert Vos. Nathan Sagert scored on the power play in the third period before UVic answered three times before Simon Brouwer put one into the empty net.
UFV picked up a much needed four points this weekend and is currently sitting in third with twelve wins and seven loses with five games remaining. The team travels to Burnaby this Friday to face top ranked SFU. The team also boasts the top two scorers in the BCIHL, Robert Vos with 49 points and Matt Ehrenreich with 44 points. The next home game is Saturday, March 6th at 6:30 at Centre Ice.
UFV Routs Saints - Jan. 31st
The UFV Men’s Hockey Team dominated the last meeting against the Selkirk Saints this past Sunday by beating them 10-0. There was no scoring in the first period but in the second and third period UFV exploded with five goals per period. The scoring in the game was well rounded by having eight different scorers. Robert Vos ended with a goal and five assists, Brett Reusch had three goals and two assists, and Matt Ehrenreich finished with a goal and four assists. Rhys Chesney stopped all 18 shots faced and recorded his third shutout in four starts. This was the fourth and final meeting of the two teams with UFV out scoring their opponent 23 to 0. The team currently sits tied for second with TRU. The next home game is Saturday, February 6th at 6:30 at Centre Ice agaisnt University of Victoria.
